Pointing for Leeds red brick and stone

Red brick rows and stone villas
Red brick takes on a darker, sooty tone on older terraces, and new mortar in a bright mix can look stark against it. We test the sand and mix so the new joints sit in with the brick. Where bricks have softened, we keep the mortar weaker so the brick is protected.
Stone villas have different needs, often with ashlar fronts and rubble backs. The front may need fine hand pointing while the back can take a fuller joint. We price each face for the work it needs.

What does repointing cost in Leeds?
A standard terraced front or rear starts from £1,850 and a semi-detached front or rear starts from £2,450 for the elevation. Stone villas, high walls, chimneys, bays and walls with hard cement to cut out cost more. Detached houses are priced from photos. For the stone villas and older lime-built terraces, lime pointing adds a quarter, so a semi-detached elevation starts from £3,062.50.
Will new mortar look too bright on my old red brick?
Not if the mix is chosen well. We test samples and let them dry before starting so the colour blends with older, darker brick.
Can you do just the front garden wall?
Yes. Small walls and piers can be repointed or rebuilt on their own. Send us a photo of the wall and its coping.
My back-to-back only has one outside wall. Is repointing it urgent?
If the joints are failing, it is worth doing soon, because that wall is the only weather protection the house has. Damp tends to build up quickly in these houses.
Do you repoint the rear of terraces with tight access?
Yes. We plan access from photos and use towers or small scaffolds where a full scaffold will not fit.
