Doors and windows that have started to move
When a window starts to stick or a door no longer closes cleanly, most people look at the frame. Often the real cause is above it, in a lintel that has dropped and is pressing down on the frame.
Our lintel repair service takes the weight off, removes the failed lintel and puts in a new one. The brick above is rebuilt and the joints matched, so the repair does not stand out.
For worn mortar on the rest of the wall, read about repointing in Nuneaton. The lintel replacement guide sets out what is involved in more detail.

Terraces and post-war houses
Brick terraces in Nuneaton often have arched or simple brick heads over their windows, with timber or early steel behind. Age, damp and the occasional replacement window can all leave the head weaker than it was built to be, and the brick shows it as a dip or a crack.
Post-war houses usually have concrete or steel lintels. Concrete from that period can crack and spall as the reinforcement corrodes, and early steel can rust through where water sits on it. A missing cavity tray can also let damp into the room below.
Lintel problems you might notice
- Door that has started to catch
- Window that is harder to close

Nuneaton lintel questions
What is the cost of lintel replacement in Nuneaton?
Bands go by length, starting at £1,850 for 1 to 1.5 metres and £2,150 for over 1.5 up to 2 metres, and both include inside and outside lintels. Just one side is half, from £925. Upstairs access and extra brickwork raise the price.
My front door sticks at the top. Could it be the lintel?
Yes, it can be. If the door has started catching and there is a crack or dip in the brick above, the lintel may be dropping onto the frame. A photo of both will tell us a lot.
Can you replace a lintel without replacing the door?
Usually, yes. The door and frame stay in place while we prop the wall and change the lintel. Once the weight is off, a sticking door often frees up.
Is a post-war concrete lintel worth repairing?
If the cracking is minor and the steel inside is not badly rusted, a repair may hold. Lintels that have split or lost their face are better replaced.
How long will my wall be propped?
The props stay until the mortar over the new lintel has set firmly. We give you a rough timescale when we quote.
