Where red brick homes need attention
Red brick terraces often have backs in much worse condition than their fronts. Rear walls sit in shade, collect water from yard roofs and downpipes, and were sometimes built in cheaper brick. Pointing the back and leaving a sound front for a few more years is often sensible, and we price each separately.
On interwar houses the front is usually laid in a harder brick with a decorative joint, such as a recessed or weatherstruck finish. A repoint in a flat smear spoils the look, so we copy the original profile. We also check under the bay and around the porch, where joints take the most splash.
